DUBAI // Police have denied using hidden speed cameras to catch motorists. A picture of a hidden camera between metal rails circulated on social media recently, with some claiming it was stationed in Dubai.
But Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina was quick to quash the rumour. “We do not use these kinds of cameras in the UAE. This is not our way. We do not hide camera radars to catch speeding cars. We have clear signs on the roads and our radars are visible.
“Even mobile radars that are placed on cars are visible, and if a person is paying attention to the road, they can spot the police vehicles parked.”
He also said that the Ministry of Interior was always transparent in its work and informed the public about any new radar installations, adding that the picture did not even look as if it had been taken in the UAE.
