DUBAI // A motorist who committed hundreds of road offences for which he owed more than Dh200,000 in fines has had both his cars seized by police.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director at the general directorate of traffic at Dubai Police, said the Emirati had committed 222 offences – 157 in Dubai, seven in Abu Dhabi, 38 in Sharjah and 19 Salik offences in additions to one unpaid parking ticket – in his white Nissan Patrol, to clock up fines amounting to Dh134, 930.
His orange Nissan Patrol, which he had registered in his sister’s name, collected 107 fines totalling Dh80,330. Eighty seven offences had been committed in Dubai, seven in Abu Dhabi, eight in Sharjah, one in Oman and another in Umm Al Quwain. There were three Salik offences.
Col Al Mazroui said that man was contacted by police but did not pay the fines. As a result, officers, along with authorities in the city of Al Dhaid in Sharjah, seized both vehicles.
The Emirati had 81 traffic points on his driving licence, which was annulled.
Col Al Mazroui urged motorists to immediately pay off their fines through the various methods of payment made available to them.
