DUBAI // The first phase of a Dh67 million project to extend Academic City Road is set to be completed in the second quarter of next year.

The project will shorten journey time from 20 to five minutes and serve developments under way including Dubai Studio City, Mudon, Akoya and Dubai Golf City, said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.

The first part of the project is the extension of Hessa Road in a four-kilometre section with two lanes in each direction, starting from the entry point of Remraam Residential Project to the existing roundabout at the Dubai Sports City entrance. A traffic signal junction will be created to ease mobility from and to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Mr Al Tayer said.

The project will be completed with a traffic corridor from Al Safouh Road in the west to Emirates Road in the east, making it a key road in the area.

The second phase of the project will involve the construction of a road linking the extension with Emirates Road, which will serve the Villa project over a 2.5km-long stretch comprising two lanes in each direction.
