A car caught fire on Friday morning while being driven through a tunnel on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Police said.

The motorist was heading in the direction of the Atlantis hotel and managed to escape from the car before it burst into flames, a police official told The National.

No injuries were reported.

Just before noon, police posted a warning on Twitter alerting road users to traffic delays caused by the burnt-out vehicle.

Within an hour, police managed to remove the car and cleared the area of traffic.
