A bus driver was killed after crashing into a truck which was stopped on a road in Abu Dhabi.

The bus rammed into the rear of the stationary vehicle at Mussaffah Industrial Park in the emirate on Sunday morning.

The driver, who police say is Asian, died as a result of the crash.

The fatal incident has prompted a safety warning from police over the dangers of vehicles stopped on the road.

Lt Colonel Abdullah Al Suwaidi, deputy traffic director at Abu Dhabi Police, urged motorists not to stop in the middle of the road if avoidable, to choose the correct place to park or make an emergency stop, to remain focused on situations ahead on the road and maintain a safe distance to allow time to steer clear of hazards.
