DUBAI // The Al Freej bus service has ferried more than 50,000 riders since its launch last July. The J01 service aims to transport families, the elderly and the disabled from their homes to offices, clinics, health centres, schools and government offices.
The 12.2km route starts from the Jumeirah Village Circle, to Al Barsha 1-3, Mall of the Emirates serving about 23,000 residents of Al Barsha.
Daily ridership has jumped from 428 passengers at the start of operation to 765 three months later, the Roads and Transport Authority said.
“This initiative has been undertaken following a field study covering several districts of Dubai to probe the size of demand of residents for a safe and smooth public bus service,” said Adel Shakri, director of planning and business development of RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
