AL AIN // Residents have called for safety improvements on a the road that heads to Salalah in Oman.
Al Ittihad, The National's Arabic-language sister newspaper, reported that the residents complained the road was not properly maintained. They said the lack of proper lighting and traffic control measures, combined with motorists' tiredness after driving the 1,000 kilometre-plus journey from Oman, was causing accidents.
Alia Al Ghafri, of Al Ain, said many people take that road to Salalah during public holiday. She added that motorists travelling at night suffer from extreme fatigue, which leads to dangerous accidents.
The extreme darkness and a lack of motorway rest areas were adding to the dangers of driving.
