AL AIN // The city has announced its aim to become the first that is pedestrian friendly in the UAE with plans to develop 23 parks and 15 walkways.
Shaded sitting areas, sport equipment, children’s playgrounds and landscaping will be placed along the walkways, while ensuring sustainability, in line with the standards of Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council.
Local plants are to be used to reduce the need for irrigation and groundwater, and three main streets in Al Ain (Shakhbout, Al Nabbag and Al Bateen) are to be landscaped.
Al Ain Municipality has completed two new walkways so far this year, Shiab Al Ashkar and Al Naqfa.
