ABU DHABI // An express bus service will begin running in the capital on Friday.

The buses will run an average of 72 daily trips every 30 minutes .

The three new routes will provide a “wider coverage of bus network” for commuters, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport said on Thursday, and have been selected following a comprehensive study conducted by the bus division on existing routes.

Express bus number L10, will connect Abu Dhabi city to the Mohammed bin Zayed City bus station.

The L20 bus will provide connections to Shuhada Badar Mosque in the Shahama district, while bus number L40 will connect Abu Dhabi commuters to Baniyas West bus station.

Starting April 22, paper tickets will no longer be sold on Abu Dhabi suburb buses. Passengers will have to use a Hafilat card, which are sold at every major station, to pay for transport.

Hafilat cards can also be purchased at ticket vending machines found in bus stations, AC bus shelters, customer care centres, shopping malls and hospitals.
