Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorcycle riders to take more care after recording 81 accidents in the emirate last year.
Brigadier General Khamis Isaac said the accidents led to five fatalities and 10 severe injuries.
He added that the main causes of accidents are excessive speed, sudden swerving, changing lanes and reckless driving.
Officers have been holding road safety awareness programmes in schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain as more than half of those involved in motorcycle accidents were youngsters, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
