Abu Dhabi Police are urging drivers to put children's safety first – and avoid the fatal consequences of flouting traffic laws.
The force has released a thought-provoking video, prompted by the start of the new school year, highlighting the deadly dangers of not staying focused when behind the wheel.
The short video, released on Abu Dhabi Police's official Twitter account, shows a driver hitting a young child stepping off a school bus.
The video shows the school bus indicating its intention to stop, giving the driver ample time to slow down and assess whether a child will be alighting.
The video carries the slogan: "Keep them alive, don't be a killer."
Traffic volume on UAE roads has increased significantly with the start of the new school term, as thousands of children travel to the classroom by bus or in cars.
Motorists are being urged to stay alert and adhere to traffic laws to stay safe on the road.

November 30: Despite a power sharing agreement, Tehran takes full control of Abu Musa.
November 31: UK officials visit all six participating Emirates to formally end the Trucial States treaties
December 2: 11am, Dubai. New Supreme Council formally elects Sheikh Zayed as President. Treaty of Friendship signed with the UK. 11.30am. Flag raising ceremony at Union House and Al Manhal Palace in Abu Dhabi witnessed by Sheikh Khalifa, then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
December 6: Arab League formally admits the UAE. The first British Ambassador presents his credentials to Sheikh Zayed.
December 9: UAE joins the United Nations.
