Drivers caught speeding in Umm Al Quwain will have their traffic fines halved if they pay over the next three months.
Lt Col Saeed Obaid bin Arran, head of the Traffic and Patrols Department at UAQ Police, said the decision aims to give motorists the chance to renew their car registration and pay any fines.
The discount will extend to people whose cars are registered in other emirates, but only applies to traffic offences committed in UAQ, said the lieutenant.
The decision will also help low-income motorists pay their fines and minimise the number of offences of people driving vehicles with an expired registration, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
