SHARJAH // More than 3,000 speeding violations have been recorded in Sharjah in the minutes leading up to iftar.
Cap Raid Al Kai, deputy director of Sharjah Traffic Police, said speed cameras caught 3,326 incidents of motorists speeding to reach their homes in time of Maghreb prayers since the beginning of Ramadan.
“Motorists who are late are breaking the law by speeding and jumping red lights, which poses a great danger to them and others.
“We urge motorists to drive within the speed limits, wear a seat belt, refrain from using phone or being distracted while driving,” said Cap Al Kai.
He added that Sharjah Police, in cooperation with Al Ihasn Charity, has started distributing meals to motorists at iftar time in an attempt to lower the number of speed violations and accidents.
