DUBAI// Two tourists admitted stealing jewellery worth more than Dh76,000 from a house in Al Rafaa.
The men, aged 23 and 25 and from Georgia, told Dubai Criminal Court they committed the crime at 1pm and not at night as prosecutors said.
They broke into the home of an Indian salesman on December 18 after damaging the front door’s lock. The thieves took numerous gold and diamond pieces and two cameras worth Dh18,000.
“When I returned home I saw the lock broken and rushed inside to see that all the jewellery was gone and the cameras,” said the 41-year-old tenant.
Police traced the men to the Naif area. Prosecutors say they resisted arrest and assaulted four policemen, and also tried to slit their wrists and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The men pleaded guilty in court on Wednesday to charges of robbery, damaging property and trespassing. A verdict is expected on April 27.
They were also referred to the Court of Misdemeanours on charges of resisting arrest, assaulting police officers and attempting suicide.
