DUBAI // A 21-year-old tourist caught with more than 1.5 kilograms of drugs hidden in his luggage, told the Dubai Criminal Court that the bag belonged to his father.
Prosecutors said Pakistani AM was arrested at Dubai International Airport after custom inspectors found a hidden pocket in his bag which had 11 plastic bags containing drugs.
Customs inspector MJA, 20, testified that on September 6 this year he was suspicious of AM’s bag because it was unusually thick on the sides.
“I had his bag inspected and found the drugs,” said MJA, adding AM denied knowing anything about the drugs and said the bag was for his father.
A total of 1,550kg of Opium, diazepam and phenobarbital were found.
AM denied a charge of smuggling and possessing drugs. The next hearing will be on November 19.
