DUBAI // Three men have been arrested after smuggling almost 3.5 kilograms of heroin into the country.

Two of the men, both Asian, had entered the country on tourist visas. Their compatriot worked in the UAE for a private company.

“Police received information on the suspect, Z H A, 34, that he was in possession of a large amount of narcotics,” said Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri of Dubai CID.

“The man was immediately arrested near his home in Al Quoz area, where the suspects’ attempts to promote their poisons among members of society, especially young men, was foiled.”

During the course of the investigation Z H A admitted to buying drugs, said Col Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, director of the Anti-Narcotics Department. “Officers followed protocol and further searched the suspect’s home, where they found an additional amount of heroin in one of the closets, a total of 3.45kg,” he said.

“The suspect admitted during investigations that he had received the heroin from two visitors, 38-year-old N H B and 22-year-old W B H, who entered the country a day before the first suspect was arrested.”

After being arrested at the hotel they were staying in, the men told police they had been working with a drug dealer who lived in the country they had flown in from.

Col Hareb reminded the public to contact the free hotline, 800 400400, should they see any drug-related activity.
