ABU DHABI// An Etihad Airways flight to New York was delayed for nearly 12 hours on Thursday after their plane experienced a technical problem before take-off.
Flight EY103 was scheduled to depart from Abu Dhabi for John F. Kennedy International Airport at 3:35am on Thursday.
The flight finally took off just before 3pm.
Passengers took to social media to complain they had to wait for about four hours on the plane before they were allowed to disembark to wait at a gate.
An Etihad spokesperson said the flight was delayed because of a “technical issue”.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this delay may have caused our guests but safety remains the airline’s highest priority,” said the spokesperson.
Apart from the disruption for passengers aboard EY103, an Abu Dhabi airport spokesperson said the airport was running smoothly in the lead up to what was expected to be a busy weekend before the Eid Al Fitr holidays.
