More than 3,000 people attended a three-day public awareness campaign on swine flu that stressed the importance of better hygiene practices in combating the spread of the H1N1 virus. Dubai Municipality, in co-ordination with Cool & Cool International, held the workshops at all municipality locations this week, according to WAM, the state news agency. An illustrative presentation at city hall on Wednesday featured a number of speakers, including Dr Samira Ali Hemeedi, of the Clinic and Community Health Section of the Public Health Services Department.

The campaign stressed the importance to health of practising hand washing, especially in the light of the spread of lethal viruses such as Influenza A H1N1. Those who attended the presentation were given information on preventive measures against swine flu and were also given free anti-bacterial wet wipes and hand sanitisers. So far there have been six deaths in the UAE from swine flu. newsdesk@thenational.ae
