DUBAI // One of two young men accused of breaking into a house and stealing a quad bike has confessed to the crime but said that he acted alone.
Emiratis MN, 21, and MA, 19, are charged with armed robbery in relation to the Yamaha Raptor bike owned by a fellow Emirati.
Student MN confessed at Dubai Criminal Court on Wednesday morning but said that he does not even know MA.
MA was not present in court to enter a plea. His father told the court that his son is undergoing surgery at a hospital.
Prosecutors said that early in the morning of December 10 last year, the owner of the bike, OA, was leaving for work when he noticed that his bike was missing and the chain it was tied to had been cut off, so he called police.
“I noticed the back door to the house was forced open, so I knew we were robbed,” said OA.
About 10 days later police received a tip-off about the bike being parked at a house in Nad Al Hamar. Police then took the bike back to the station only for MA to arrive demanding it back.
“We asked him for the ownership documents and he said he lost them,” said policeman MKA, 26. “After a long conversation, he confessed to stealing it along with is friend.”
The policeman also said that the two defendants do know each other as they are cousins.
The next hearing will be on May 7.
