Stormy weather makes way for a calmer spell

Forecasters predict ‘sunshine with a bit of a haze’ this weekend.

Weather forecasters say the storms of the last few days should stay away for the weekend.

Although the sun is expected to come out, beach-goers might still be disappointed as mist and haze are likely.

After a week of rain and blustering winds, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said the weather across the country is expected to slowly return to normal, with calmer conditions over the weekend.

“The weather will be mostly fair, so there’s nothing to worry about,” said the centre’s spokesman. “The country will be mostly sunny with a bit of haze.”

The country’s east, however, is expected to be partly cloudy.

Weather warnings continued this week as cloudy and dusty conditions persisted across the country. Drivers were cautioned about poor visibility, which was caused by low cloud.

A large amount of rain had been recorded in Al Quaa, south of Al Ain, as of 8am.

“We registered 22 millimetres of rain, it’s a lot and it’s a very good sign for the UAE,” said the spokesman.

“Usually within this month, we have big fluctuations in the weather because different pressure systems such as rain, cloud and sun affect the country.”

This month’s instability was due to a “huge air mass in the upper air”, the spokesman said.

“There was an extension of low pressure in the upper air approaching the region from the north of the country and the east of Turkey. This caused a lot of instability in the weather conditions.”

But that instability is thought to be over.

The gusting north-easterly high wind should also die down, and are expected to reach a maximum of 25kph to 30kph along the coast. Visibility will also increase, to as much as 6 kilometres, and the sea will be moderate, with waves reaching a maximum of 1.5 metres.

The temperatures along the coast will range between 27°C and 32°C, with a minimum of 17°C. Inland, temperatures will be as low as 16°C as high as 37°C.
