Can't keep up with all the Special Olympics World Games events? There's an app for that.

Organisers of the Games, to be held in Abu Dhabi next week, have launched a mobile phone app that will help users keep up to date on all the events and their locations.

With more than 7,500 athletes from about 190 nations competing in 24 sports, fans will be able to see real-time games schedules, information about more than 3,000 awards ceremonies and details of non-sporting activities.

The app is expected to be used by thousands of people including volunteers, spectators, athletes and their families, coaches, media and many more, in the build-up to and during the Games, containing information about shuttle bus timings to venues and the Host Town Program schedule.

Using up-to-date travel information and live alerts from Google Maps, users will be able to find the easiest way to get to all the venues across the country.

Indoor navigation has also been installed, meaning people will not have to worry about being lost at any of the sites.

Profiles of each athlete, team and information about their sport as well as Games results from each discipline will be available for users through the app.

“Technology will play a key role in ensuring the Games are accessible to all," said Dr Yousef Al Hammadi, chief intelligence officer at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi.

"The app will also include features designed especially for the needs of people of determination – ensuring everyone will be able to participate fully.”

Users can also learn more about Special Olympics and discover the best places to visit in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Android users can download the app by visiting the Google Play Store while the iOS version can be downloaded from the App Store.
