ABU DHABI // The Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival is a chance for Emiratis to celebrate their culture with modern pastimes originating from the UAE’s heritage.

This year’s event, at 20 days, will be the longest yet.

The annual celebration of the country’s rich heritage returned to Al Wathba on Thursday and features a wide range of attractions and activities that bring to life the country’s journey from a new nation to a modern country.

The festival is a fusion of Emirati folk exhibits, live cultural interactions and innovative entertainment.

It presents itself as a living museum, showcasing Emirati culture using the latest technology.

Named in honour of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed, the festival celebrates the cultural inheritance and legacy of the inspiring achievements of the country’s forefathers, according to its organisers.

The festival creatively brings to life Emirati heritage, featuring museums that allow visitors to experience the nation’s history through interactive activities and live attractions.

This year, the festival is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors.

About 5,000 participants will take part in the event, highlighting how Sheikh Zayed preserved his heritage and built a nation on this very foundation.
