Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed toured A'l Bahar, a beachfront development, on Abu Dhabi's Corniche on Tuesday.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was briefed on the facilities of the 80,000 sq m development that opened in March and includes a 500m promenade on the shores of the Arabian Gulf.

"Abu Dhabi's growing interest in establishing recreational and tourist developments ideally fits within the emirate's priorities to accelerate its sustainable development drive and underpin the future of this significant sector," said Sheikh Mohamed.

"The government will continue its plans to develop and boost the competitiveness of the tourism sector in line with Abu Dhabi Vision with regards to accelerating infrastructure investments as per best world standards."

During the tour, Sheikh Mohamed stopped to speak to some residents visiting A'l Bahar, which means "by the sea".

Mohammed Al Mubarak, chairman of Miral Asset Management — the project's developer — described A'l Bahar as a valuable addition to the emirate's family tourism magnets, reported state news agency Wam.

The beachfront development, which was opened in March 2018, includes a variety of sports facilities, with basketball and beach volleyball courts, football pitches and an outdoor gym.

Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, chairman of the Department of Transport, Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and a number of officials.
