Representatives from the Sharjah International Book Fair are taking part in a global literary event in New York.
Delegations from 80 countries and 939 publishing houses are attending the three-day BookExpo America, which began yesterday.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, the director of the Sharjah fair, is leading the UAE delegation.
He said his team would be using the New York event, now in its sixth year, to forge closer ties with the international community.
The delegation would invite publishers, authors and other book industry workers to attend the Sharjah International Book Fair's professional programme, which aims to bring literary figures from around the world together to exchange ideas through workshops, symposiums, lectures and discussions.
Mr Al Ameri said his delegation would outline the programme to interested publishers and that he expected it to be a "highly successful event".
He said there would be a programme of events for Arab publishers to discuss the translation-rights industry and how locally written books could be taken to a multinational audience.
The 32nd Sharjah International Book Fair will run from November 6 to 16 at the Expo Centre Sharjah.

Also on December 7 to 9, the third edition of the Gulf Car Festival (www.gulfcarfestival.com) will take over Dubai Festival City Mall, a new venue for the event. Last year's festival brought together about 900 cars worth more than Dh300 million from across the Emirates and wider Gulf region – and that first figure is set to swell by several hundred this time around, with between 1,000 and 1,200 cars expected. The first day is themed around American muscle; the second centres on supercars, exotics, European cars and classics; and the final day will major in JDM (Japanese domestic market) cars, tuned vehicles and trucks. Individuals and car clubs can register their vehicles, although the festival isn’t all static displays, with stunt drifting, a rev battle, car pulls and a burnout competition.

A plume of black smoke rose from a fuel storage facility in the village of Kalynivka outside Kyiv on Friday after Russia said it had destroyed the military site with Kalibr cruise missiles.
"On the evening of March 24, Kalibr high-precision sea-based cruise missiles attacked a fuel base in the village of Kalynivka near Kyiv," the Russian defence ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine confirmed the strike, saying the village some 40 kilometres south-west of Kyiv was targeted.
