SHARJAH // The Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, is to compensate Emiratis affected by infrastructure projects.
He has allocated Dh120million for 418 citizens affected mostly by road projects in 34 areas, said Salah bin Butti, the director of the Department of Planning and Survey in Sharjah.
That is an average of Dh287,000 for each citizen, many of whom had their homes torn down.
"We ask all beneficiaries to turn up to the departments with all supporting documents to receive their compensation cheques starting from this week," Mr bin Butti said. "Compensation was being made after a good assessment of the national's value of the property."
Aisha Al Jarwan, the director of the compensation committee, said that Sharjah Executive Council was closely following up on the compensation process to support the provision of a decent life in the emirate, as well as developing infrastructure.
She said the council had been in contact with everyone whose property had been affected and those who were due compensation had been informed.
"We planned to give out these cheques ahead of Eid, so that people should go through the Eid celebrations happy," Ms Al Jarwan said.
