Newly installed eye-scanning technology at police stations in Sharjah will ensure people in custody are properly identified, authorities announced on Wednesday.

According to state news agency Wam using an iris scan, police can compare live eye scans taken in police custody with a wealth of computer networks that store iris files to detect criminals using fake identification documents.

Iris-scan technology is already used in airports around the world at customs gates to accurately identify and stop unwanted persons from gaining entry into countries.
