ABU DHABI // A man has been arrested after a series of arsons on vehicles in the Western Region.

The Pakistani, 23, is suspected of torching a caravan, four trucks, two buses and two tankers parked in a desert area in Ghayathi.

No one was injured in the fires, and his motives are unknown.

Col Ojeil Abdullah, director of Western Region Police, said initial investigations found a cigarette lighter was used to start the fires.

Investigators said the evidence implicated M A S in the crimes. He was arrested while driving recklessly, they said.

They say he told them he had been sacked from his job as a driver but that his crimes were not driven by revenge.

He would commit them at night after drinking and target vehicles randomly.

The victims had confirmed they had no personal issues with the suspect.
