‘Serial robber’ was caught in the act, Dubai court hears

Emirati is accused of stealing more than Dh6,000 from a restaurant and police say he has confessed to a string of robberies.

DUBAI // A man who is accused of breaking into a restaurant and stealing Dh6,186 was apprehended at the scene of another robbery, a Dubai court heard on Thursday.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that Emiratis TK, 23, and MM, 21, broke the door of a restaurant in Al Nahda on February 3, 2012, and stole the money.

Prosecutors said that neither of them were arrested at the time but about two months later TK was arrested when he carried out another robbery at a company in Al Qusais.

HA, a 28-year-old policeman, testified that on March 27, 2012, that TK confessed to his robberies.

“He confessed during interrogations that he had carried out other robberies, including the one from the restaurant, and he said that they carried out the restaurant robbery at 1.30am” said HA.

Police then arrested the second defendant who was released on bail before being taken into custody again after he got involved in a drug possession and consumption case.

The next hearing will be on June 9 to summon the defendants as they were not in court to enter a plea against the charges of armed robbery and damaging property.
