DUBAI // Two Chinese men broke in a house and stole Dh400,000 and a Dh29,000 watch, a court heard on Thursday.

On March 23, 2013, unemployed compatriots B G, 27, and K A, 36, are accused of breaking the lock on the front door of the house using hammers and other tools and making off with a gold bracelet, identification cards, the Omega watch and the Dh400,000 in cash.

Police said the pair broke the dressing table in the bedroom and stole its contents.

In the apartment of the defendants a safe believed to be from a previous crime that they are accused off was found, as too were tools that were said to have been used in the robbery.

Police officer M M, 43, said the duo were apprehended and they confessed to the robbery.

“B G confessed to receiving Dh16,000 for the robbery, K A received Dh10,000. They said that a third man was involved in the robbery as well,” he said.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday the defendants did not appear to enter a plea for an armed robbery charge so the case was adjourned until May 17.

What is a robo-adviser?

Robo-advisers use an online sign-up process to gauge an investor’s risk tolerance by feeding information such as their age, income, saving goals and investment history into an algorithm, which then assigns them an investment portfolio, ranging from more conservative to higher risk ones.

These portfolios are made up of exchange traded funds (ETFs) with exposure to indices such as US and global equities, fixed-income products like bonds, though exposure to real estate, commodity ETFs or gold is also possible.

Investing in ETFs allows robo-advisers to offer fees far lower than traditional investments, such as actively managed mutual funds bought through a bank or broker. Investors can buy ETFs directly via a brokerage, but with robo-advisers they benefit from investment portfolios matched to their risk tolerance as well as being user friendly.

Many robo-advisers charge what are called wrap fees, meaning there are no additional fees such as subscription or withdrawal fees, success fees or fees for rebalancing.
