ABU DHABI // The Emirates Red Crescent and the Philippines Red Cross have reached agreement to work together on several projects helping those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
Dr Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, ERC’s chairman of the board of directors, and Richard Gordon, chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross, signed a deal in the Philippines that will aid exchange of skills and assistance in projects and other types of mutual cooperation, especially related to health and education.
Dr Al Mazrouei said the deal was important as the Philippines has faced many challenges as a result of the hurricane, which swept through the country in late 2013 destroying everything in its path and killing at least 6,300 people.
Mr Gordon said that the ERC relief programme on humanitarian aid, which is worth US$10 million to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, is a generous initiative and he praised the strength of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
