RAK ruler pardons 140 prisoners

The Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, orders the release of 140 prison inmates in memory of his late father.

One hundred and forty prisoners are being released from Ras al Khaimah jails in memory of the emirate's late Ruler, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed al Qasimi.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, ordered the release of 140 inmates of various nationalities in memory of his father, who died on October 27.

State news agency WAM said the pardon reflected Sheikh Saud's keenness to give the prisoners a chance to start a new life and ease burdens on their families.

Sheikh Saud also pledged to pay the travelling expenses of the deportees to allow them to reunite with their families during the Eid al Adha festivities in their homelands.
