A police helicopter from Ras Al Khaimah rescued three hikers who lost their way up a mountain in the emirate on Sunday.
Officials said they were phoned by the tourists when they realised they were unable to locate their vehicle.
Col Saeed Al Yamahi, head of the RAK's Air Wing department, said a search and rescue team managed to locate the three - two men and a woman from Poldan - some 1,200 metres above sea level.
"They started their hike on Thursday afternoon and lost their way up Jebel Jais mountain," said Col Al Yamahi.
"One of them called the operation room on Friday around 6am and we dispatched a rescue team in a helicopter to search for them.
"They didn't have any water or food but due to the cool weather they were fine and not dehydrated."
Col Al Yamahi said that mountain climbers or walkers need to take care when hiking in unfamiliar hills.
In June last year, a British man, 25, died after slipping and falling while walking in the mountains of RAK.
"They should have enough water and food, headlamps, safety equipment, a GPS, and an experienced partner," Col Al Yamahi said.
"We always urge people to inform the nearest police station about their mountain treks so we can locate them easily."

Iran has sent five planeloads of food to Qatar, which is suffering shortages amid a regional blockade.
A number of nations, including Iran's major rival Saudi Arabia, last week cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of funding terrorism, charges it denies.
The land border with Saudi Arabia, through which 40% of Qatar's food comes, has been closed.
Meanwhile, mediators Kuwait said that Qatar was ready to listen to the "qualms" of its neighbours.
Classification of skills
A worker is categorised as skilled by the MOHRE based on nine levels given in the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) issued by the International Labour Organisation.
A skilled worker would be someone at a professional level (levels 1 – 5) which includes managers, professionals, technicians and associate professionals, clerical support workers, and service and sales workers.
The worker must also have an attested educational certificate higher than secondary or an equivalent certification, and earn a monthly salary of at least Dh4,000.

Who was Alfred Nobel?

Know before you go
- Jebel Akhdar is a two-hour drive from Muscat airport or a six-hour drive from Dubai. It’s impossible to visit by car unless you have a 4x4. Phone ahead to the hotel to arrange a transfer.
