Pupils in grades three and seven across public and private schools in the emirate will have to answer one maths and one science question a day to prepare for an upcoming international assessment.
The Question-a-Day Trimester Two initiative was launched by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge during a three-day workshop recently held for school leaders. Pupils will use a smartphone app to enter their answers over the next seven weeks. The application also provides teachers with reports about the pupil’s strengths and weaknesses.
The initiative is meant to prepare pupils for the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2019 (TIMSS 2019) by familiarising them with online question formats, international style questions in English and problem solving skills using different strategies in record time, according to Adek.
Pupils who complete the questions will be rewarded with “Question-A-Day coins” as an added incentive.
Teachers and Question-a-Day coordinators will also be issued support materials and lesson plans. By the end of the trimester, the pupils will write a mock test, according to Adek.
About 58,000 pupils in grades 3 and 7 pupils are expected to participate in Question-a-Day.
