DUBAI // A flight from Dubai to Sydney had to make an unplanned stop in Perth because of a mechanical problem.

Australian media reported that Qantas flight QF2 was forced to land after developing “fuel system issues”.

Passengers on the Airbus A380 took to social media to say the plane was already delayed for more than three hours after being stuck on the ground at Dubai International Airport.

The flight, which was due to land in Sydney at 5.10am local time, made its unscheduled stop in Perth at 2.50am.

Passengers were asked to stay on the plane for more than an hour before being allowed to disembark, The West Australian newspaper reported.

Engineers inspected the plane before it left the airport at 1pm to continue its journey to Sydney.

Upon landing in Sydney Airport the passengers were asked to remain on-board until ground staff were able to fix a separate mechanical problem with the stairs.

Passengers disembarked at approximately 8:00pm Sydney time, 15 hours after their scheduled time of arrival.
