Prostitute begs Dubai court not to take her baby

DUBAI // A prostitute with an illegitimate newborn baby has been sentenced to a year in jail to be followed by deportation.

“Please don’t keep me away from my baby, I’m so scared that he will be taken away from me,” AM, 29, from Tajikistan, begged the Criminal Court.

She and her Omani lover SS, 40, were arrested last Ramadan in an apartment in Al Baraha while she was preparing a suhour meal. The woman, who was pregnant from an illegal relationship with another man, was charged with illegally entering the country, consensual sex outside wedlock and prostitution.

She had been deported from the UAE in 2005 but sneaked back into the country on a boat that landed in Fujairah in January this year.

“There was a car waiting for us when we arrived and it took us to Ajman where the woman who arranged our trip was waiting. I paid her Dh7,000 and then left for Dubai where I lived with a woman I knew,” she said.

She said she met her baby’s father at a dance club and the two became intimate. However, when she became pregnant he fled the country.

A few weeks later she met her Omani lover and moved in with him.

“We met at the dance club and became close. Later she told me she was an illegal resident so I asked her to correct her situation,” said the Omani, who has been charged at the Residency Court with housing an illegal resident.

The Criminal Court sentenced the woman to a year in jail to be followed by deportation. She will also appear at the Misdemeanours Court on a charge of consensual sex. At the Residency Court she will face a charge of illegally entering the country.

The child will remain with her in prison and be deported with her.
