President Sheikh Khalifa has called for urgent relief to be sent to Sierra Leone after a landslide killed 300 people and displaced hundreds more on Monday.

Heavy rains caused a mudslide in the country's capital Freetown which buried an untold number of people in their homes.

The UAE is one of the first donor countries to announce emergency relief, a result of the country's policy of 'rapid response' to natural and human disasters, the state news agency Wam reported.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the aid would be provided through the World Food Programme.
