Weather: more rain for Pope's visit to Abu Dhabi

  • Arabic

Heavy rain fell across parts of the UAE on Sunday and more is expected on Monday, with cloud cover persisting across the country.

The wet weather comes as Pope Francis arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday night for his historic first trip to the Gulf. Conditions are expected to clear in time for the Pope's Mass on Tuesday.

On Monday, the National Centre for Meteorology expects rain in parts of Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras al Khaimah, Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai from 6pm to 10pm.

Moderate to light rain is expected over Abu Dhabi and the western region.

The temperature will drop again, ranging between 18°C to 25°C in Dubai, and 17°C to 24°C in Abu Dhabi while temperatures along the coast will range between 14°C to 24°C, and 08°C to 20°C in the mountains.

Humidity is likely to increase during the night and tomorrow morning over some inland areas with a chance of mist.

The sea will be rough to very rough in the Arabian Gulf and rough in the Oman Sea.

Winds will reach up to 55 kilometres per hour, creating waves of close to three metres offshore, according to the NCM.

The Ministry of Interior posted a video with instructions on how to stay safe during unstable weather.

On its official Instagram account, the ministry called on drivers to be cautious. It outlined the instructions for heavy rain and run-off floods and advised motorists to stay away from valley streams and pay attention on the road. It also warned about the dangers of children playing near ponds.
