Pope Francis and Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb arrive for a meeting with the Muslim Council of Elders at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Reuters

Pope Francis arrived at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on Monday afternoon for a private meeting with the Muslim Council of Elders.

The pontiff was met by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Al Sharif University, Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb. He will speak at the inter-religious meeting at the Founder's Memorial .

Earlier on Monday Pope Francis held talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Palace.
