DUBAI // A Polish manager was arrested for having heroin in her possession after an acquaintance told police that she was a drug user, a court heard on Wednesday.

M A, 28, was arrested on May 13 as she left the Dubai Mall.

She was charged with possessing 0.2 grams of heroin and consuming cocaine.

A man who had been arrested on drugs charges had tipped off police about her activities, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

“This man gave us names of a number of people who consume cocaine and heroin and M A was among the names,” said K J, a police lieutenant, who led the inquiry.

M A was kept under surveillance and a warrant was obtained for her arrest.

She was apprehended at the mall and was taken to her home in Jebel Ali.

When they reached her home, K J said he asked her whether she possessed any drugs, to which she denied having any. However, some heroin was found wrapped in silver foil and hidden in M A’s make-up bag.

“She confessed then and said that a Sri Lankan man had provided her with the heroin,” said the police lieutenant.

“She also said that she had consumed heroin and cocaine in her apartment at a party three days before her arrest.”

A urine test confirmed M A had drugs in her system.

She confessed to the charges in court on Wednesday.

A verdict is expected on September 2.
