SHARJAH // Police have launched a YouTube channel to help them keep in touch with the community and its needs.

"The channel will increase our interactions with people, create awareness and make public all police news," said Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed Al Hudaidi, the commander in chief of Sharjah Police.

"We also hope to get more feedback from the public on different police news, complaints ... and general views, feedback that would help us improve police services and preserve the safety of everyone in the emirate."

The channel's content will be generated by different police departments. They will produce videos showing the nature of officers' work and post them online, said Maj Gen Al Hudaidi.

The channel, which is due to go online soon, will be accessible by entering "Sharjah Police Channel" in YouTube's search engine.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said Sharjah Police was working on ways to increase interaction with the public.

The force already has a Facebook page and regularly sends out messages on Twitter.

Social-media channels are being used more and more by the public and it is important for the police to keep up to reach as many residents as possible, Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said.
