SHAJRAH // A gang of six men who allegedly impersonated police officers in order to rob companies around Sharjah has been arrested, police said.
The Pakistanis were tracked down after several reports to police stations about the gang. The men would dress as police officers and attack security guards at the firms before tying them up and stealing safes and vehicles.
A team of investigators was formed at Saja’a police station and were able to identify one of the gang. He was apprehended after securing proper search warrants.
When interrogated, the man confessed to carrying out the crimes. The rest of the group were caught in coordination with Abu Dhabi and Al Ain police.
Police said that five of the members had no identification papers and are illegal residents in the country,
All six of the men have been referred to public prosecution to face armed robbery and assault charges.
