DUBAI // Police officers have travelled to Ukraine to recover Dh6 million worth of jewellery that was stolen in the UAE.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief for Criminal Affairs at Dubai Police, said the items were taken in a spate of burglaries at several villas and apartments in the city about 12 months ago.
Some of the thefts were reported to the police only after the thieves fled the country.
A CID task force was able to determine that two men, one from Turkey and one from Azerbaijan, had committed the crimes.
In March it was found that the suspects were living in Ukraine.
Police were tipped off and the suspects were arrested with the stolen items still in their possession.
Last week, three Dubai Police officers flew to Ukraine and recovered all of the stolen jewels.
