DUBAI // A man who posed as a CID officer raped a woman he was supposed to be helping with a visa problem, a court heard on Wednesday.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that Iranian M A, 34, a company representative, met Filipina M G, also 34, in an online chat room.

Prosecutors said he told the victim he was an Emirati named Mansour who worked for CID.

The two met in person last September after chatting online for two months. He took her out for dinner before driving her home.

She told the court that the next day she asked him to help her cousin with some visa problems and he agreed.

On the morning of October 6 he called her and told her to meet him to discuss the problem. Later that day he drove her to Dubai International City.

“He told me we are going to have dinner at his cousin’s house where his cousin and his girlfriend are and that they want to meet me,” she said.

The Filipina said she became suspicious when the Iranian produced a key to the flat.

“He then let me in a studio apartment,” she told the court. “No one was there. He held me by my shirt and dragged me and threw me on the bed.

“He took off my pants after he smacked me on the legs because I was resisting and then he took off his clothes and raped me.”

She said he then drove her home.

“After we got notified about the rape, the victim gave us the licence plate number of the defendant’s car,” police officer HA said. “We tracked the defendant down and apprehended him.”

Forensics then matched his DNA to the victim. Police said he confessed to rape but he was not present in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 5.
