Young people with disabilities are to sew uniforms for thousands of pupils attending government schools.
The project by the Zayed Higher Organisation will lead to about 100 'people of determination' being trained in sewing and given work.
The uniforms have a trademark logo - a bee - to show pupils their clothes were made by ZHO's own pupils.
ZHO's centres are attended by more than 1,500 young Emiratis with special needs and learning difficulties in Abu Dhabi.
Jameela Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education, said creating a learning environment and integrating them into society is "urgent, a national direction which all institutions and individuals work towards".
She met with the first young people to be trained and saw first hand the uniforms they have made.
“The agreement will contribute to providing people of determination with a large dose of growing confidence and self-satisfaction, as it adds to an important part of personal needs - work, productivity, and social service,” she said.
ZHO provides services to ensure people with disabilities are included in the wider community. This includes an education, vocational training and sport activities.
Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed, chairman of Zayed Higher Organisation, said the mission is to "create society free of barriers that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families".
Under the sewing programme, signed with the education and community development ministries, private sector companies supplying government schools with uniforms will have to assign at least 1 per cent of their contract work to ZHO.
Young people from the organisation manufactured bags for the Special Olympics games earlier this year and have previously made scarves for sports clubs, along with electric goods such as torches.
