Pedestrian bridge near Dubai World Trade Centre set to open

A footbridge near the World Trade Centre in Dubai is expected to open on Tuesday, as part of a project by the Roads and Transport Authority.

The Trade Centre Bridges project, Zaabeel, includes a 92-metre footbridge with lifts to accommodate the large number of visitors to the centre. It is part of a Dh719 million building project that was recently completed.

“The project enables direct traffic movement from Al Khail Road 1 near the Dubai World Trade Centre in the direction of Sheikh Rashid Road, and from there to Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges, as well as Oud Metha Road,” said Mattar Al Tayer, the authority’s chairman and executive director.

“It also provides direct traffic flow the other way round, from Sheikh Rashid Road to Al Khail Road 1 and from there to the Parallel Roads passing across Burj Khalifa district.”

He said it was one of the largest and most important phases of the Parallel Roads project, one of the biggest undertaken by the authority.

It aims to link the Western Parallel Road with the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed and Al Khail Road 1 at the front of the World Trade Centre.

“The project encompasses the construction of 22 bridges of precast concrete units, forming a corridor spanning 4,250 metres comprising two lanes in each direction, together with a concrete ramp extending 120 metres added to serve the traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge,” said Mr Al Tayer.
