'Parents buried baby on Dubai beach'

Dubai //A couple have been accused of burying their premature baby on a public beach after it died at two days old.

The child was born on January 1 this year, 32 weeks into the pregnancy of JA, a Filipina who worked at the Co-operative Union.

The father was not identified. Two days later, the baby died.

The mother told her lover of the death and he went with her to the Jumeirah public beach, where he buried the child 30 metres from the shoreline.

One of her co-workers saw the birth at their workplace in Al Quoz area.

The co-worker contacted police on January 10 when she discovered the baby had died.

Police found the body with the help of a lifeguard, who had seen it partly exposed by the tide.

Prosecutors charged JA, 30, with consensual sex outside of wedlock and endangering the life of the child by failing to provide medical care.

She was also charged with burying the body without a permit.

Her lover remains at large.

A date for a first hearing will be scheduled once prosecutors from the Juvenile and Family Prosecution have completed their investigations.
