The New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi will host a conference focused on identifying risks and discussing the legacies of mega sports events across the UAE.

Over the past five years, the UAE has hosted several global elite sports events, bolstering the country’s domestic success and enhancing its international identity. This weekend will see the sixth edition of the Etihad Airways Formula 1 Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.

In the coming years, the UAE will continue to augment domestic sports participation and infrastructure, engage international fans, and expand media coverage while navigating critical challenges that include gender equality and injury-related health risks.

The event – Embracing Sports in the UAE: Building Domestically, Expanding Globally – will be attended by international sports luminaries such as Omar Nour, the first Egyptian professional triathlete, sports business magnates and government officials, and will be held from November 19th-20th in NYUAD’s conference centre at its campus on Saadiyat Island.

“It is a privilege for NYU Abu Dhabi to host Embracing Sports in the UAE,” said Al Bloom, NYUAD’s vice chancellor.

“Sports play an important role in enhancing undergraduate education through deepening dedication to excellence, reinforcing resilience, and fostering teamwork and respect across competitive contexts, while offering respite to a rigorous academic programme.”

The event is held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Chairman of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, and in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the NYU School of Professional Studies Sports and Society Programme.
