No long weekend this New Year for UAE

Public sector employees will not get an extra day off for New Year.

According to the state news agency Wam the New Year holiday, which falls on Friday January 1, will not be moved to allow government employees a long weekend.

However, private employees working on Friday will receive a paid holiday, according to a circular issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour.

This coming Thursday, the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed, will be a public holiday with work resuming on Sunday.

At the start of this year, all UAE workers were given a long weekend.
