Improving networks around the rapidly developing Expo 2020 site in Dubai are increasing at pace as the latest bridge opens at the intersection between Al Asayel Street and Expo Road. The Roads and Transport Authority announced the work had been completed ahead of schedule and was part of phase five of the new roads project leading to the exhibition site. Three lanes on each side of the bridge on Expo Road will improve access to and from the area in the direction of Jebel Ai Free Zone ad the Jebel Industrial Area. “This phase includes the construction of bridges extending 2.6 kilometres and roads spanning about 3km,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general of the RTA. “The Expo Road will be widened to six lanes in each direction over a 3km sector.” Phase one of the roads development project extends close to 30km, and is almost 50 per cent complete. It includes expanding the existing roundabout at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection into a flyover with Expo Road. Expo Road is also being raised and widened with two new bridges, with six lanes extending 800 metres, to improve traffic flow to and from the Expo. More than 25 million visitors are expected to visit Dubai for the World Expo from October 20, 2020, to April 10, 2021.
