ABU DHABI // Two new beaches that can accommodate up to 3,000 people and are free to the public are now open along the Corniche.
Part of the municipality's waterfront expansion project, the two beaches lie to the east and west of the family beach and the Corniche's other long-term amenities. A staging area for special events and facilities is planned for the future development of the beach extensions.
The municipality is also "keen on providing every means of entertainment and environment suitable for practicing various sports such as a football pitch and volleyball playground", said Badreya Al Dhahiri, director of community services at the municipality.
Access to the beaches will be unrestricted, but swimming will not be allowed after 6pm.
The Corniche boasts 26 eateries and restaurants, 47 toilets, 35 showers and 52 changing rooms. The beach can accommodate more than 15,000 people and features five volleyball areas, two football pitches, four children's playgrounds and three playing fields.
